THE numbers were well down for this year's Sat Piran play on the dunes at Perranporth but this may well have had something to do with the weather which was horrible.

Wind and rain lashed the small band of marchers as they made their way down to the old St Piran Oratory waving Cornish flags and carrying flowers but well protected against the elements.

The new St Piran play was performed which details St Piran's expulsion from Ireland by being chucked over a cliff with a millstone on his neck, eventually washing up in Cornwall floating on the stone.

St Piran's day itself was celebrated in Truro on Monday with a march through the city, again in the rain.
