BUDOCK:
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: Look out for a spate of novels about Cornwall written by members. The speaker this month, Jane Pollard, gave members an interesting and informative talk on the art of novel writing and tips on how to research etc, before undertaking the mammoth task.
Mrs Pollard, who writes under the names of Dana James and Jane Jackson, told members that it takes her about a year to write each book. She wrote 14 books for Mills and Boon and these are all now being reissued in large print. She brought a selection of her books and told members her latest stories, several of which involve the Packet Ships.
The latest one, Devil's Pride, is one of a trilogy. She also now gives talks, workshops and various seminars on the art of writing. She was thanked by Jean Pettit.
Prior to the speaker the vice-chairman and assistant secretary, standing in for holiday duty, reminded members of the visit of St Buryan WI on April 23 and of the Spring Countdown meeting with Ann Widdicombe at the HFC. Five members were successful in obtaining tickets.
"Get Well Soon" messages were sent to Gwen and Mary, both recovering from operations. After the usual delicious tea the meeting concluded at 10pm.
In Cornwall many people spend time on one of the sandy beaches and shingle coves along the coastline.
SWANPOOL Beach in Falmouth is preparing for this Friday’s debut drive-in with a drive-out.
The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
The youth of Falmouth were in mourning this week following the sudden death of a popular bar worker described as “a true star.”
