FEOCK:
Women's Institute: A workshop of quilting and patchwork took place during the month with ten people being shown how to make "cathedral windows" patchwork pin cushions by Doreen Roper. She had brought along her beautiful quilts and cushions which were a joy to see and exquisitely made.
The Spring Show at Feock was much enjoyed by all participants and a great deal of work and organisation resulted in a very successful show, which was well attended and great fun. Entries were much increased from last year and it was fortunate flowers were exhibited before the storms damaged them. This is very much a village occasion with all ages taking part. The children's entries from Kea School and other village children were very imaginative this year. Crafts of many kinds were shown and a large entry of cookery and floral arts and artwork showed what talent there is in the village.
David Chapman, is a trustee of Cornwall Wildlife Trust, spoke at the March meeting about his new book "Wild about Cornwall" and showed wonderful slides of photographs which he takes himself for both the magazine and his own book.
David talked about several specially designated wildlife sites of interest from all over Cornwall and showed the flora and fauna which might be seen at different times in the year. He talked particularly about the influences that geology, soil, climate and the consequences of peoples' activities have on wildlife and how this produces unique and important places for specialist birds, butterflies and flora.
In Cornwall many people spend time on one of the sandy beaches and shingle coves along the coastline.
SWANPOOL Beach in Falmouth is preparing for this Friday’s debut drive-in with a drive-out.
The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
The youth of Falmouth were in mourning this week following the sudden death of a popular bar worker described as “a true star.”
