CARNON DOWNS:
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: The demonstrator for the evening was Krista Barden who produces the most delicate, pretty necklaces and earrings. Using plastic coated wire and a variety of glass beads she very quickly made a simple necklace, which most of the members would have been very happy to have.
Krista showed members the different types of implements used in the process stressing that it is important and much easier to use the correct tools.
She demonstrated techniques for various types of necklaces and persuaded Dianna and Heather to try their hands at making one. Naturally enough they were much slower than Krista but were applauded for producing very wearable items. They both agreed that jewellery making was not as easy as it looked!
President Dianna Couch welcomed two new members to the meeting, remarking that it was good to see our numbers increasing. She announced a coffee morning at her home on 17th May. Details were given of the trip to Port Eliot at St. Germans on 29 May. This is an opportunity to visit an estate not regularly open to the public.
Members are looking forward to the group meeting on May 21 and decided on the entry to represent Carnon Downs in the group competition.
There will be an early start to the May meeting on May 13 at 6.30pm. This will be followed by Call my Bluff at 7.30pm, to which family and friends are invited. There will be a pasty supper to round off the evening.
A new competition has been instigated when members are asked to bring something beginning with the first letter of the month, this month of course being A for April. The most unusual item, as judged by the speaker, will be the winner. The winner this month was Maureen Lock with a bowl of ashes.
Ladies who may be interested in joining the WI or who want to know more about it should contact Dianna on 863560 or Barbara on 864476.
