FLUSHING:

ST PETER'S CHURCH: The Eucharist held on April 27, sixth Sunday of Easter, was celebrated by The Rev Andrew Stevenson, Priest-in-Charge. In his sermon, he said that belief in God is not popular these days. Many prefer to believe in nothing or, indeed, anything rather than face up to the fact that God is living and active.

The lessons were read by Robert and Mariquita Hichins. The organist was Sid Bryant.

FRENCH BISTRO EVENING: What a wonderful evening this was. On entering the church hall on the evening of Thursday, April 24, the French atmosphere hit you; the long tables set with red and white chequered tablecloths and decorated with small flower arrangements and candles in wine bottles, French music playing in the background, people dressed in French attire and a hub-bub of chatter with many trying out their French or speaking with a French accent. All of this added to the feel of this very successful and exciting evening. The French Quiz was won by Robert Hichens and the French cuisine was excellent and delicious. The Rev Andrew Stevenson thanked Sandra and Rodney Myers for organising the evening and everyone else who helped to make the occasion so successful. The magnificant sum of £758 was raised for the church.
