HELSTON

HELSTON ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION: A meeting of the Royal British Legion Women's Section was held on April 10 at the Royal British Legion Club Helston.

The meeting was opened by the chairman, Ruth Willey, who recited the exhortation. A minute's silence was observed in memory of Kitty Pascoe.

The speaker was unable to attend the meeting so at short notice Nicola Boase told members about her visit to Buckingham Palace to receive her Duke of Edinburgh Award. She was thanked on behalf of the members by Sandra.

The raffle was given by Ruth and won by Ruth. Competition winners: 1, Nicola; 2, Felicity; 3, Sandra; 4, Joan. Flower of the month winners: 1, Nicola; 2, Felicity; 3, Joan; 4, Sandra.

ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH: The celebrant and preacher at Parish Communion on the fourth Sunday of Easter was the Rev Dorothy Noakes, assisted by Betty Booker, lay Reader.

The Rector, Canon David Miller, introduced the service, while Roger Johns read the lesson and Andrew Holyer led the prayers. The Rev Dorothy's sermon followed the theme of Jesus as Good Shepherd and explored how conflict in the world is born within the human heart, where often evil is nurtured and goodness starved. In Jesus' name we must feed the goodness.

Junior Church had learned about praying to God about daily worries and had made a "Worry Box" to house any problems.

METHODIST CHURCH: The morning worship was led by H Bray and Nigel Dower played the organ. At the same time the children from Basecamp were at INSPIR8, enjoying a morning at Burras Chapel with young people from throughout the circuit.

The evening Allsorts Café Church, with the theme Confession, was led by the Rev Andrew Hill.

During the week the usual fellowship groups and the Let's Sing Group met and a new sewing group was started. Anyone wanting details of any of these weekly events is very welcome to pop into one of the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday coffee mornings and ask for further details.
