HELSTON
ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH: There were many visitors of all ages in the large congregation at First Sunday Family Communion where the theme of Jesus' Ascension was presented in several ways.
The Rector, Canon David Miller, using visual aids demonstrated that Christian hands do the work that the living but unseen Jesus requires to be done in the world.
The Rev Dorothy Noakes spoke about discipleship and witnessing, both of which arise from personal experience of Jesus. Canon Miller presided at Communion, Betty Booker, lay Reader, assisted at the service, Avril Plunkett read the lesson and Diane Barlow led the prayers, including prayers for Flora Day. The music was provided by organist Richard Berry, culminating with a rousing rendition of The Lord of the Dance.
METHODIST CHURCH: The Rev Andrew Hill led the family service on Sunday morning. Christian Aid week is from May 11-17 and he showed two short films about their activities and one of their projects in Bangladesh.
Basecamp members welcomed the congregation and took up the collection, and Skye, Jason and Jasmine took part in a short demonstration. George Bilkey and Ethel Collins read from the Old and New Testaments, and Tracey Andrews and Barbara Hill had a discussion about one of the readings. Nigel Dower played the organ.

Those who whimped out missed out on the Carnival held on Saturday. Torrential rain failed miserably to dampen the spirits of those taking part though the small number of spectators adversely affected the size of the charity collection.
