MAWNAN SMITH
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: Jean Wattis led members in a minute's silence for a past long standing member, Dorothy Deacon, who had sadly passed away earlier that day.
The evening had a serious note to it with the report from Jean about the Spring Countdown held recently in the Hall for Cornwall. Jean gave details of the resolutions to go before the AGM in Liverpool in June and these were later discussed by the members.
A vote was taken and the delegate from Mawnan attending the AGM will take the decision to Liverpool. Jean spoke on behalf of all those who attended when she said how much they had enjoyed the talk by Anne Widdecombe.
Future outings include "Up the creek" with Peter Gilson and an evening at Country Skittles.
A little light entertainment then took place with drinks and nibbles to help members complete three different quizzes, one a cryptic Cornish place name, one jumbled flower names and a "name that tune". Supper was eventually served and everyone agreed it had been an excellent evening. The competition for "An arrangement in a tea cup" was won by Lorraine Wickens.
On Saturday members hosted a Spring Fayre which raised almost £500 towards the purchase of a fibre optic endoscope for Falmouth Hospital. Many thanks are extended to all those who helped at and attended this event.

Those who whimped out missed out on the Carnival held on Saturday. Torrential rain failed miserably to dampen the spirits of those taking part though the small number of spectators adversely affected the size of the charity collection.
