MULLION: METHODIST CHURCH: The Methodist church enjoyed a wonderful Christmas of music, events and services against the beautiful backdrop of the third Christmas tree festival. Twenty-six local groups and associations took part this year and raised £200 for the improvement fund. The competition to identify the various countries in "Christmas round the world" attracted nearly 40 entries and was won by Mrs Angela Wood.
Both the primary school and the playgroup held their nativity plays in the chapel, and there were concerts by Mullion handbell ringers, and the ever popular Pentyr singers.
A special highlight was a concert of a capella (unaccompanied) singing by the newly formed Mullion singers linking with the established group from Penzance under director Michelle Brown. Their united voices provided a wonderful evening of songs and rhythms from around the world.
The theme of Christmas round the world was continued in the "Carols among the Christmas trees" service led by the Rev Sylvia Burgoyne. Members of the congregation read accounts of Christmas in other countries, some from personal experience. A united service traced the history of carol singing through the ages, and a family service on Christmas morning crowned the celebrations with a packed chapel and £196 was raised for National Children's Homes.
