MULLION
METHODIST MONDAY CLUB: Monday Club began February with another successful fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support. Coffee and stalls selling books, bric-a-brac and homebakes raised over £160, bringing the current total to over £1,000 accrued since September.
Members joining in with the Old Cornwall Society's monthly lecture learned much about Cornwall's St Piran. Eileen Carter supplemented her interesting talk with a fine display of photographs, many relating to the dig at St Piran's Oratory at Perranporth.
Noreen Todd explained a little of Chinese herbal remedies, as well as acupuncture. It was intriguing to learn that the Chinese tend to pay their doctors when they are well - quite logical when you think about it!
The month concluded with a visit from the Rev Rose Westwood, of Longdowns, to discuss Mothering Sunday. She led morning worship and Monday Club members supplied readers and floral tributes for ladies in the congregation.
Over a welcome "cuppa", the Rev Westwood answered questions about her role as Chaplain of the Tremough campus at the University of Cornwall. The wide spread of beliefs poses many challenges.
P&O Ferries has signed a contract with Aker yards to build two large car-passenger ferries for the Dover-Calais service. The price for both vessels is said to be EUR 360 million.
The weather may have let them down but the runners did organisers proud at this year’s Mawnan Fun Run.
