The Post Office is proposing to relocate St Just Post Office, and reopen it as a "modern open-plan local plus-style branch" with extended opening hours.

The new St Just branch at Newscentre, 18 Bank Square, St Just, would operate from two open-plan tills at the retail counters during shop opening hours instead of from separate screened counters.

To "maintain essential services to the rural community", St Just would be a Local Plus branch with enhanced local Post Office service – customers would still be able to carry out everyday banking such as cash withdrawal, deposit and cheque deposit.

There would be special arrangements to support business customers. The branch would continue to offer travel money and a wide range of Post Office and mails services.

The proposed new location is 130 metres from the present St Just Post Office at 7 Market Street, St Just.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 7am to 6pm; Wednesday and Saturday: 7am to 7:30pm; Sunday: 7am to 1:30pm. This would offer an extra 29 hours 30 minutes of Post Office service every week including Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The branch will also open significantly earlier and close much later every day.

The proposed move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Will Russell, Regional Manager said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in St Just and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation. Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal. The consultation will close on 18 November 2014.
