Fire crews were called to Causewayhead, Penzance yesterday afternoon after a report of flames and smoke pouring from a flat above a shop.
Two appliances from Penzance Fire Station attended just before 3pm.
A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Initially the caller reported flames and smoke issuing and there was the possibility of persons reported.
"The crews soon established that all persons were accounted for and then continued to check the remainder of the property for the seat of the fire.
"Two breathing apparatus and one hosereel jet were used to completely put the small kitchen fire out, and then natural ventilation helped clear the smoke and fumes. The fire was accidental and confined."
