Penlee RNLI volunteer crews were called into action on the evening of Friday, October 31, when both lifeboats launched to search for a vulnerable person.

Falmouth Coastguard contacted the RNLI at 5.13pm and shortly after, as darkness fell, the all-weather lifeboat Ivan Ellen and the inshore lifeboat Paul Alexander were heading out of Newlyn.

Both RNLI lifeboats helped the police, cliff rescue teams from Penzance, and the search and rescue helicopter, to carry out a full search of the shoreline and sea between Penzance and Marazion.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "With a southerly force five wind, a two metre swell and heavy rain, conditions were quite difficult for the inshore lifeboat Paul Alexander, which returned to station after an hour of searching. The all-weather lifeboat Ivan Ellen continued with the search but nothing was found."

At 7.40pm the Ivan Ellen returned to Newlyn and the missing person was later found safe and well.
