An off-licence worker in Penzance was left “very shaken” after having been robbed by a knife and hammer-wielding thief.

Police in Cornwall are now appealing for witnesses following the incident, which took place at around 8.20pm last Thursday (December 18) at the Rosevean Off-Licence, in Rosevean Road, Penzance.

In particular, investigating officers are trying to identify any taxi drivers who were in the Rosevean Road area between 7.45pm and 8.30pm and ask that they contact them immediately on 101 if they can help.

The robbery occurred when a man wearing a balaclava entered the off-licence armed with a knife and hammer, and threatened a member of staff, demanding money.

A quantity of cash was handed over from the till and the man escaped.

A police spokesperson said the shop assistant was “very shaken” following the incident but not injured.

The suspect is described as wearing a balaclava and a beige and white jumper.

Police are appealing for witnesses and in particular anyone who was in the area of Rosevean Road between 7pm and 9pm and saw anything suspicious.
