A search of Gwithian Beach was carried out yesterday after a report that a human body had washed up on the shoreline.
Porteath Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted by Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre (CGOC) at 11.30am on Tuesday that they had received a report from a member of the public that a body had been washed up on Gwithian beach somewhere west of the Red River.
A spokesman said: "Having liaised with the police at Gwithian car park, the beach was searched thoroughly from Godrevy westwards. E
ventually remains were found close to Peter's Point and it was decided by the police officers who were present that it was the carcass of a domestic animal, possibly a sheep that had fallen in the sea.
"The remains were disposed of to prevent further calls from the public."
