A group of friends will be embarking on a cycle ride from London to Penzance over the course of a week in May to raise awareness of and money for Parkinson's UK.

The Bordercross team formed in 2013 when one of the members wanted to do something to thank Children's Hospice South West for the support they had given his family.

Soon a group from all corners of the community came together and took on an epic trip circumnavigating Cornwall by cycle and kayak. The event raised over £10,000 for the hospice.

Now the team is back together for a new challenge, cycling from Paddington to Penzance, roughly following the mainline rail route. The fundraisers are planning to meet with regional Parkinson's UK groups along the way to publicise their work.

Kevin Godden, one of the cycle ride organisers, who was diagnosed with the condition ten years ago, said: "It's a complex condition, with no two people affected the same. Parkinson's UK do a great job raising awareness and understanding of the condition, and we are keen to help this cause.

"They are also making dramatic advances towards a cure, which fills us all with hope . When I suggested the team raise money for Parkinson's, they all agreed instantly, and every penny raised will go towards the great work of Parkinson's UK".

The trip will set off from the London head offices of Parkinson's UK on Monday, May 18 and call in at major rail stations to meet local Parkinson's groups. They are due to arrive at Penzance station on Saturday, May 23. That evening there will be a welcome party and charity auction at the Star Inn in St Just. The team have set a target of £10,000, but hope to exceed this.
