A group in a RIB had to be rescued by St Ives RNLI on Friday after suffering engine failure off Black Cliff, near Hayle, on Friday night.

The inshore lifeboat The Colin Bramley Parker was sent at around 8pm to assist the adult and three children in the six meter boat.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The RIB suffered an engine failure and was just outside the surf line at Hayle estuary. Upon arriving on the scene, ILB helm George Deacon put crew Nick Philips aboard to check the passengers were safe and well, he then secure a line from the ILB and remained on-board while the RIB was towed back to St Ives harbour.

The spokesperson added: "The children thought this event was a great adventure. Arriving back in St Ives harbour in the dark, crewmen Nick Philips and David Chard then helped the RIB to moor it alongside Smeatons Pier."
