The National Trust in West Cornwall and local comic, Kernow King, are joining forces to create the first ever Duchy Seven Nations Rugby Tournament on Marazion Beach on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

With the iconic St Michael’s Mount as a dramatic back drop, 14 adult teams will do battle in a touch rugby tournament that will not only include teams representative of the Six Nations, but now also teams from Cornwall.

Edward Rowe, otherwise known as the Kernow King, said: “We love our rugby in Cornwall and, each year, I and many others think to ourselves how wonderful it would be to see Cornwall in the 6 Nations. So, after a chat with the National Trust, we decided to make it happen in the guise of a family friendly touch rugby beach tournament.”

We are inviting teams to apply as one of the Seven Nations; you could be Wales, England, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland or Cornwall. You just need to be 16 years or over and the teams are open to both women and men. It will be a fun, family day.

Ian Marsh, general manager for the National Trust in West Cornwall, said: “In 2015, the National Trust is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Neptune Campaign, set up to raise funds for the coast, with a special Coastal Festival of events taking place across the South West. This beach rugby tournament is a wonderful opportunity to have some fun at the coast against a stunning backdrop; and it will also help raise essential funds to help us continue to protect this and the other 300 miles of coastline in the South West. We are delighted to be working with Kernow King to encourage visitors to enjoy Marazion Beach by getting outdoors and playing sport.”

Kernow King and the National Trust encourage teams to register soon, as team titles will be snapped up quickly, as Kernow King said: “I’m pretty keen to create a Cornish team, but with some family living in Italy, I may have to form an Italian team too.”
