A motorcyclist has died following a crash with a car on the A30 at St Erth in Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.15am, after a man on a Honda motorcycle was in a collision with a Toyota Auris at Station Approach, between Hayle and Penzance.

The man, in his 20s and from west Cornwall, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the 37 year old woman driver of the car, from Penzance, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. She remains in custody at Camborne police station.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers from the Force Collisions Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances of the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

"They are particularly keen to hear from the driver of a white Hyundai I10 which was seen travelling past St Erth services in the direction of Land’s End at 7.10am.

"It is believed the vehicle was directly in front of the collision and the driver would have certainly witnessed the incident."

The A30 was closed in both directions until 2pm, to allow police to conduct a forensic examination of the scene.

The motorcyclist's next of kin have been informed.
