The Battery Belles recently took delivery of seven new buoys and anchors for marking an open water swimming route which starts from Battery rocks alongside Jubilee Pool, Penzance.

The buoys were purchased by the Coastal Communities Fund as part of the project to renovate the Pool and will be used by Open Water Swimmers in the local area.

Open water swimming has become popular over recent years and locals swim all year round from Battery Rocks and the slip beside Jubilee Pool towards Newlyn. Due to an increase in open water swimming and water sports over the past years in the area, Tina Riggall, from Penzance Open Water Swimmers, and local clubs felt that distance buoys should be present as a guide along the Penzance promenade.

Jubilee Pool in Penzance is currently undergoing major renovation following significant structural damage during the winter storms in 2014. The renovation work is being carried out by CORMAC Solutions Ltd. Works began in summer 2015 and the pool is scheduled to open in spring 2016.

The Coastal Communities Fund have granted Cornwall Council £1.95m as part of a project totalling £2.94m. Match funding has also been provided by Cornwall Council, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership’s Regional Growth Fund, Tempus Leisure, Penzance Town Council and the Friends of Jubilee Pool.
