A Marazion man who is the public "face" of the Godolphin Arms has been recognised as an unsung hero at the South West Tourism Awards at Exeter Cathedral.

Geoffrey Pearce, the Godolphin Arms ambassador, won the Unsung Hero for Customer Service award on February 4, for his role in ensuring all guests have an outstanding experience, and being the face of the Godolphin Arms in building relationships with the local community.

Geoffrey was born in Marazion, and as a young man trained as junior footman on St Michael's Mount, before spending 29 years at the British embassy in Washington DC. He returned to Marazion 10 years ago and and has enthusiastically embraced his return to the hospitality industry.

The company said Geoffrey excels in building the Godolphin Arms' relationship with the local community. He organises a regular Saturday Club for adults with learning difficultuies, which has raised thousands of pounds for local charities, and is also the Godolphin Arms representative on the committee of the Sand Rose Charity in Marazion.

He also organises the weekly beach school with Marazion Primary School, and leads on and organises trips to St Michael's Mount for various charities, including a twice-yearly trip to Pencalenick School, Truro.
