Police have been searching for a 54-year-old man who went missing near Porthcurno in west Cornwall on Sunday, February 7.

Mike Reid (pictured), from Redruth, was working in the area as an RSPCA Inspector at the time of his disappearance and has not made contact with anyone since around 3.30pm on Sunday.

He has not been seen since he went to save the gannets stranded on rocks at Porthchapel Beach, near Penzance, at about 2pm on Sunday.

A family member reported him missing at around 6am on Monday 8 February when he did not return home from work.

Mike’s white van was located at the Minack Theatre car park.

A sea and coastal path search took place on Monday 8 February by police and Coastguard. A Coastguard helicopter assisted with the search.

Mike is described as white, 5ft 8ins in height, of stocky build, with short greying spiked hair. He was wearing black trousers, a white shirt and black jumper.

Inspector Jean Phillips, based in Penzance, said: “We are extremely concerned for Mike’s welfare, particularly with the wet and windy weather overnight. If anyone sees him in the area please get in touch.”

Anyone with information about Mike’s whereabouts is asked to call 999 quoting reference 106 of 8 February.
