Newlyn Post Office is to relocate to the Dolphin Inn on Jack Lane in June as part of plans to provide extended opening hours.

The Post Office originally consulted on a plan to move to site in 2013, and will now be moving into the empty premises to provide a Post Office and a store selling hardware, games, stationery, greetings cards and food to go.

The postmaster, Darrell Sedgwick, wishes to expand his retail business to offer a convenience store alongside his Post Office business, and the new premises will have a modern look with an open plan counter.

Post Office services will be offered from two low-screened, open plan style service points integrated into the retail counter and would be open throughout the store’s proposed opening hours of Monday to Sunday: 7.30am to 7.30pm.

The company has said this will allow 38 extra hours of Post Office service every week including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon, and the branch will open significantly earlier and close later every day, making it more convenient for customers to visit.

The current branch will close on Tuesday, June 14, at 5.30pm with the new branch opening on Thursday 16 June.

During the transfer period customers are being directed to use the St Clare Street Post Office on St Clare Street in Penzance.

The move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, and will make Newlyn a 'local plus' style branch with enhanced local services including manual banking, Transcash, and Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide International parcels.

Payment by cheque will still be accepted, and the company will create level access at the site.
