Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious two-car collision in Penzance yesterday [25 June] which left three people critically injured.

Emergency services were called at 4.45pm after the collision between a silver Honda Civic and a red Peugeot 106 on Penzance Road, Pendeen.

The driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old woman local to the Penzance area, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital by air ambulance.

She was later transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where she remains in a critical condition.

The female driver of the Peugeot, aged 42 and local to the Penzance area, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries. She remains in hospital in a serious condition.

The front seat passenger of the Peugeot, a 69-year-old man, also sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he remains.

The road was closed for five hours while officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit carried out an examination of the scene.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle travelling on Penzance Road prior to the incident to contact them.
