A shuttle train service has been set up between St Erth and Lelant as the firefighters say a massive tyre fire has been scaled back.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service reported in the early hours of this morning that the incident at a St Erth recycling centre had been "scaled down significantly," with three fire engines from Mevagissey, Falmouth and Tolvaddon remaining on scene along with a high volume, an aerial ladder platform and a welfare vehicle.
Two diggers that had been removing flammable material from the site were due to return this morning to carry on with excavation under supervision from fire and rescue personnel.
Crews are now monitoring and damping down the smouldering debris on what is now the fourth day of the fire, which broke out late on Monday evening.
Network Rail West tweeted that trains would start running this afternoon:
Thanks to @GWRUK & @CornwallFRS a shuttle train will commence this afternoon between #StErth & St Ives (Lelant Sidings). #StErthFire
