Jubilee Pool in Penzance will reopen this weekend, a week after the initial summer opening was postponed due to ongoing negotiations over operating contracts.

Entrance to the pool will be free for the first day of the summer season, when the pool reopens at 10am on Saturday, June 3.

The Friends of Jubilee Pool said in a statement: "We have all been working very hard over the past week to initiate a new management structure at the pool; to ensure value for money for local taxpayers and an improved operation with flexible opening hours and a longer season.

"We have now recruited a great team comprising a pool manager, duty manager and lifeguards, many of whom have worked at the pool before and have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment to make this new venture a real success. By recruiting them ourselves - instead of contracting the pool operation out to an external provider - we will be making a huge cost saving which can now be invested in the long term maintenance and improvement of Jubilee Pool."

The management of the Grade II listed lido, a popular destination for families, was recently transferred to the Jubilee Pool Community Benefit Society, established by the Friends of Jubilee Pool with financial support from Cornwall Council and Penzance Town Council.

The new organisation intends to operate the pool and café on the community’s behalf as a social enterprise, with all profits being ploughed back into the pool.

Accessibility works were completed over the winter, and the group thanked Cormac its efforts in having everything ready in time for opening, saying: "the pool really does look magnificent and is now finally accessible to one and all."
