AROUND 80 Athletes took part in this year's Falmouth biathlon and good competition was on offer in the form of local international athletes Nathan Jolly and Mark Lewarne who claimed first and second places respectively in this year's race.
The event took place on Gyllyngvase beach on Saturday with the event including a 1500m-sea swim, followed by a 10km road run.
Following the swim leg, both athletes demonstrated their international quality and emerged from the water together a long distance ahead of their nearest rivals.
A successful transition saw both competitors take on the 10km distance run and the first half of the race saw the two stretch their lead over Peter Darton who was in third Place.
As the race neared the end, Jolly got the better of training partner Lewarne and edged ahead, closely followed in by Lewarne who finished in a time of just over one hour.
Both athletes, who train together, are now looking ahead towards the St Ives Biathlon on Saturday, and would hope to take their good form into this event and emerge as one of the favourites to claim victory.
Final result: 1, Nathan Jolly, 1.00.20; 2, Mark Lewarne, 1.01.42.
