Ex-Plymouth Argyle goalkeepr Luke McCormick has signed for Truro City on a non-contract basis.

McCormick went straight into the squad for Saturday's FA Trophy away tie at Farnborough as a replacement for Tim Sandercombe, who was injured during last week's win over Hornchurch.

McCormick was jailed for seven years in 2008 for causing death by dangerous driving after his Range Rover collided with a car on the M6.

Arron Peak, 10, and his brother Ben, 8, were killed in the accident. Their father Phil Peak also suffered life-changing injuries.

McCormick was twice the drink-drive limit when the crash took place.

The signing has provoked mixed reactions from City supporters, some of whom took to internet forums to express their outrage at the club's decision to offer the player a contract.

After his release from prison McCormick trained with Swindon Town, but Robins boss Paolo Di Canio decided against signing him permanently.

Truro lost the game 3-2 amidst controversy over malfunctioning floodlights.

Elvis Hammond put the home side a goal up before Andy Watkins levelled with a 30yd drive.

Dan Bennett put Farnborough back into the lead when he scrambled the ball home from close range, before the floodlights down one side of the pitch stopped working.

Despite Truro's protestations the referee decided to allow play to continue, and just before half-time a Jake Ash foul on Aldershot-loanee Reece Connolly allowed the striker to score from the penalty spot.

Ash went some way towards atoning for the foul by pulling a goal back just before the final whistle, but Farnborough hung on for the win.
