Newquay 2

Vercesi, Pigott

Falmouth Town 2

Simcox (og), Squires

Falmouth Town stage a stunning second half comeback to claim a share of the points away at Newquay on Saturday.

The visitors were second best in the first half, with ex-Town captain Mark Vercesi opening the scoring for the home side with 15 minutes played after dummying his marker and slotting the ball past Jason Chapman.

And the Peppermints went two up ten minutes later when Chapman raced off his line to make a clearance, only for Ashley Pigott to beat him to the ball before looping a sweet volley into the back of the net.

Falmouth looked dead and buried, but came out for the second half a different side.

They tore into Newquay, who were forced deeper and deeper into their own half.

And on 65 minutes Town were rewarded when a Luke Wort free kick was bundled over the line by Newquay's Elliot Simcox after the home side failed to scramble it clear.

The goal seemed to energise Falmouth, who pressed hard for an equaliser.

It finally came in the 75th minute, when Glenn Squires nodded in from close range at the second attempt.

Bobby Bryant was on hand to scoop the ball of the Falmouth goal line late on, as both sides went for the winner.

But it was Falmouth who were closest to bagging all three points when Luke Wort's late strike ricocheted back off the post to Squires, who headed the rebound just over the bar.
