Heavy overnight rain has resulted in the cancellation of most of Saturday's Peninsula League football matches.

Falmouth Town's trip to Torpoint Athletic in the premier division, and Helston Athletic's trip to Vospers Oak Villa in division one west have both been called off due to a waterlogged pitches.

At Kernick Road, fourth placed Penryn Athletic's clash with third placed Wadebridge Town in division one west was also cancelled after a late pitch inspection.

Penryn Athletic club secretary Mike Young said: "You can't do anything about it, the weather is the weather.

"The league goes on until the first week of May so there's lots of Saturdays left, but this means the first team haven't played at home since the 1st of December against Porthleven in the [Cornwall Senior] cup."

A mouth-watering top of the table clash between premier division leaders Bodmin Town and second placed Plymouth Parkway at Priory Park was also postponed.

Elsewhere in the Percy Stephens Cup, Falmouth Albion's home tie against Carharrack at the Draceana Centre also fell vicitim to the bad weather.

This latest slew of cancellations means some clubs have not played a league game for over a month.

As of 11am, the only Peninsula League games still on were as follows:

Premier division
Penzance v Tavistock

Division One West
Hayle v Sticker
Holsworthy v Mousehole
Peranporth v Dobwalls (not confirmed)
