CALLINGTON  1

Helston Athletic came back from a goal down at home against Callington to book their place in the quarter finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup.

The Blues will play Peninsula League premier division Liskeard or St Blazey in the next round.

Callington went a goal up within the opening three minutes after Ryan Lucasi's shot on the turn beat Helston keeper Martin Webster.

And for a time the visitors were in control of the game, with Lucasi and strike partner Andre Rodirov looking dangerous on the break.

But after the break it was a different story. Sid Taylor's side played with a renewed sense of purpose and took the game to Callington.

Then in the 57th minute their pressure told when a looping corner rebounded back off the crossbar to Hugh Howlett, who showed excellent balance to steer a volley into the top corner.

After that it was Helston's turn to make all the running, with Callington keeper Jamie Blatchford needing to be alert to make saves at the feet of both Liam Eddy and Mark Goldsworthy.

The home side managed to land the killer blow with just over ten minutes remaining when Kirk Davies, on as a second half substitute, lofted a cross into the box for Eddy, whose delicate glancing header found the far corner.

Callington tried to force their way back into the game with a decent spell of pressure just before the final whistle.

But Helston stood firm to book their place in the quarter finals.
