PENRYN ATHLETIC 3
Trevaskis, M. Roberts, Davis
Lawrence, Burr, Magee
Penryn Athletic player manager Dale Band may well have nightmares about his missed spot kick, but for draw specialists Hayle it was business as usual as the two sides shared the points in a six goal thriller at a bitterly cold Kernick Road.
After a frantic opening ten minutes it was in-form Penryn who took the lead, Kayne Trevaskis with a superb finish from 15yds out after Dale Band and Matt Roberts had linked up well to play the big front man in.
Trevaskis - a striker in a rich vein of form - was causing the Hayle defence problems, but the visitors looked dangerous on the break, with the diminutive Kevin Lawrence a constant threat down the right wing.
And it was Lawrence who put Hayle back in the game with a sublime lob over a stranded Andrew Lilley.
But Hayle celebrations would be short-lived. Less than a minute later Penryn were back in the lead after Matt Roberts glanced in a headed goal to make it 2-1 from a free kick.
The visitors looked deflated, and when Trevaskis was fouled in the box and a penalty awarded, Hayle fans feared the worst.
But Band's spot kick was straight and tame. Burrows made an easy save.
The respite was temporary. On the stroke of half time Burrows hacked down Jason Roberts on the edge of the box and Hal Davis stepped up to drill in the free kick.
Two goals to the good and Penryn were purring. But after the break it was all Hayle as the visitors poured forward looking for a way back.
Sure enough they found it. Jamie Burr rising highest to head in a looping corner.
Suddenly it was the home side who looked nervy. Passes went astray, Lilley almost fluffed his lines, making unconvincing saves from Burr and Jason Searle. When the equaliser came it surprised no one.
A challenge on the edge of the box on Hayle's Dan Magee saw the same player step up to take the free kick, and he pinged in a low drive that fizzed past Lilley into the bottom corner.
Tired legs and a heavy pitch prevented much in the way of good football being played after that, and the game became scrappy.
Another draw for Hayle, who will no doubt be the happier of the two sides. But for Penryn this was a case of two points dropped.
