Lady Luck deserts Falmouth Eagles
This was a game which could and should have been won, but for gifting the opposition two easy interception tries and two exceptionally poor decisions by the referee, which would have resulted in tries for the Eagles, thus allowing the Plymouth side to continue their run of five consecutive wins on their home pitch.
They were set on their way with an early try from winger Chris Harmer. The Eagles had a player sent to the sin bin (just for a change) yet fought back first with a drop goal from Rob Banks and then an interception try run all the way by Kieran Rodda and converted by Banks.
OPM restored their advantage with their first interception try scored by Jake Luffman and then “would you believe” Ed Steven ran home another interception to put the home-side in a comfortable position.
A penalty by Banks after the break worried OPM before stretching the lead from a five metre scrum. Ed Steven scoring again.
The Eagles were the better side in the last quarter and should have scored two tries, but for the difficult premature whistle and lack of advantage – enough said! James Instance responded with a try in the corner, but the Eagles ran out of time and a late penalty by Banks secured a bonus point.
Falmouth are good enough not to have to chase the game and should not give gifts. Some players need to exercise more discipline, for the sake of the team.
If cards are their thing, they should save it for Thursday night’s Euchre Drive.
