TRURO CITY 3

Afful, Watkins (2)

HAYES AND YEADING 1

Owusu

An Andy Watkins brace helped Truro City do the double over Hayes and Yeading, boosting their slender hopes of survival with a first home win since December.

Both sides missed early opportunities to open the scoring, Barry Hayles blazing over for Truro after good work down the left by AndyWatkins, and Jerome Anderson cutting inside his marker before dragging his shot wide for Hayes and Yeading.

But just before half time Truro took the lead, Hayles hooking a through ball over his shoulder for Watkins, whose low cross found Les Afful sliding in at the near post to put City a goal up.

Ten minutes after the break Truro made it two. Player manager Lee Hodges was fouled on the half way line, he stepped up to fire a free kick flat and low into the box where Ben Gerring flicked it on. Hayes and Yeading players called for offside, but Watkins didn't wait for a whistle, taking it on his chest before calmly rounding Louis Wells and slotting in.

The visitors put City under real pressure in the second half, eventually pulling one back thanks to substitute Julian Owusu, who scrambled the ball over the line after a lightning counter attack caught Truro's defence cold.

But City made sure of their first home win since December on the stroke of full time when Watkins raced onto a Marcus Martin through ball before lobbing Wells, and sparking scenes of jubilation.
