Helston secure vital win at Wadebridge
WADEBRIDGE 1
Cox
HELSTON 2
Russell, Goldsworthy
Despite taking his tally to 40 for the season at Wadebridge, Mark Goldsworthy's winner for Helston may yet prove the most important of the lot.
The Blues opened the scoring with just six minutes played. A corner cleared by Wadebridge saw the ball delivered back into the six yard box and there was Tom Russell to control it on his chest before firing in under keeper Tom Vercoe.
The home side huffed and puffed, enjoying more of the ball, but doing little with it. Top scorer Dan Jennings cutting an isolated figure up front.
But in contrast Helston always looked dangerous going forward, and despite both Jennings and strike partner Paul Menhinick going close for Wadebridge, it was the Blues who pulled further ahead in the 67th minute.
A lightning break saw Senior Cup hero James Miller play in Liam Eddy, whose fierce shot was parried out into the path of Mark Goldsworthy. The league's top scorer made no mistake from a yard out with an easy header.
Wadebridge pulled one back thanks to sub Paul Cox's s scrambled effort with barely ten minutes to play, But despite putting Helston under pressure the Blues held on for a priceless win that may yet turn the division one west title battle into a two horse race.
