WADEBRIDGE 1

HELSTON 2

Russell, Goldsworthy

Despite taking his tally to 40 for the season at Wadebridge, Mark Goldsworthy's winner for Helston on Saturday may yet prove the most important of the lot.

The Blues opened the scoring with just six minutes played. A corner cleared by Wadebridge saw the ball delivered back into the six yard box and there was Tom Russell to control it on his chest before firing in under keeper Tom Vercoe.

The home side huffed and puffed, enjoying more of the ball, but doing little with it. Top scorer Dan Jennings cutting an isolated figure up front.

But in contrast Helston always looked dangerous going forward, and despite both Jennings and strike partner Paul Menhinick going close for Wadebridge, it was the Blues who pulled further ahead in the 67th minute.

A lightning break saw Senior Cup hero James Miller play in Liam Eddy, whose fierce shot was parried out into the path of Mark Goldsworthy. The league's top scorer made no mistake from a yard out with an easy header.

Wadebridge pulled one back thanks to sub Paul Cox's s scrambled effort with barely ten minutes to play, But despite putting Helston under pressure the Blues held on for a priceless win that may yet turn the division one west title battle into a two horse race.

A much improved Falmouth Town display saw Les Gilbert and Robbie Stephens' side narrowly beaten by title contenders Plymouth Parkway at Bolitho Park on Saturday.

Defeat means Falmouth remain in 16th spot in the league, four points above 17th placed Cullompton Rangers, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Glynn Hooper's Newquay.

Meanwhile in division one west, Penryn Athletic put the disappointment of Senior Cup defeat at the hands of Bodmin behind them by scrapping their way to a 1-0 victory away at Perranporth.

Penryn remain in fourth spot, two points clear of Sticker, but well behind Wadebridge in third place.

But it was a less successful afternoon for Dennis Annear's young Porthleven side, who were beaten 4-2 by a resurgent St Dennis at Gala Parc.

BROMLEY  4

Fuseini, Theophanous, Joseph-Dubois (2)

TRURO CITY  0

Truro City conceded a goal within the first 34 seconds of play on their way to losing 4-0 away at Bromley on Saturday.

Ali Fuseini's early goal set the tone for the afternoon, with City spending much of the game camped inside their own half and forced into defending in numbers.

Yet despite going one down so early, Bromley were unable to force a second until after the break, as City's back line stubbornly held out.

But minutes after the restart, Louie Theophanous hit Bromely's second of the game, before a quick-fire brace from Pierre Joseph-Dubois made sure of the victory.

Defeat leaves City 16 points adrift of bottom club Billericay Town, and 19 points from safety with only ten games left to play.

CORNISH PIRATES  17

MOSELEY  14

The Cornish Pirates were back to winning ways at the Mennaye on Sunday, clinging on to a slender three point lead to beat struggling Moseley in the RFU Championship.

But the Pirates were forced to work hard for the win in a game spoiled as a spectacle by high winds and freezing conditions.

Ollie Thoms put Moseley into the lead with an early penalty, but the Pirates hit back just after the quarter hour mark when Matt Evans went over for his 12th try of the season.

thomas landed kicks either side of half time to put Moseley into the lead, before Ashley Smith sored his first try for the club and Aaron Penberthy slotted over the conversion.

Smith notched up his second try of the afternoon soon after, but Moseley came back at the Pirates, driving over the line for an Ethan Waller try, only for the conversion to fall short allowing the Pirates to hold on for the win.

Meanwhile in Western Counties West Penryn built on their superb victory over Bideford last weekend with an equally impressive 18-39 win over Bude at Bencoolen Meadow.

Victory maintains the Borough's fourth spot in Western Counties West, level on points with fourth placed Devonport Services.

The win sees Falmouth move up to seventh in the table, two points ahead of Pirates Amateurs, who drew 14-14 with Liskeard Looe.

But Helston were the day's big winners, thumping Tribute Cornwall 1 bottom club St Just 0-40 away from home.
