Heavy rain puts weekend fixtures in doubt
Heavy rain forecast for Friday has put this weekend's football fixtures in doubt once again.
In the Carlsberg Peninsula League premier division Falmouth Town are due to travel to Liverton United, while in division one west fourth-placed Penryn Athletic are set to visit third-placed Wadebridge Town.
Helston Athletic have an added interest in making sure their game at Kellaway Parc against Dobwalls goes ahead on Saturday.
Defender Ashley Stidwell is currently serving a suspension, and if the Dobwalls match is postponed it means Stidwell will miss Helston's Senior Cup final against Bodmin Town on Easter Monday.
"We'll be out their with pitchforks on Saturday morning trying to get the pitch ready," said a defiant Sid Taylor on Thursday afternoon. "It would be such a shame if he was to miss the final so we'll be doing everything we can."
Porthleven host Holsworthy, but there are doubts that the pitch at Gala Parc can recover in time for the game to go ahead.
And despite up to 100mm of rain forecast to fall in Cornwall this afternoon, Peninsula League secretary Phil Hiscox said: "Any decision as to allow postponements tonight, or if clubs must wait until the morning, will be announced after lunchtime today [Friday]."
