The semi-final and final of the men’s round robin competition were played on the Falmouth green on sunday morning, under greay skies and with a cold easterly wind blowing.

the match of the day promised to be between Falmouht’s Waisters - skipped by Richard Rowe, Mike Pheby 2 and Ron Medlyn were against league leaders Helston’s Ditchers, skipped by John Darling, Terry Channon 2 and Russell Davies at lead.

The Waisters opened their account with two shots on the first end but the dicthers immediately hit back with a 4-1 to give them a 5-2 lead after three ends.

A two and a one scored by the Waisters levelled the scores at 5-5 after five ends.

the ditchers, with on shot on the sixth end, went 6-5 up but the Waisters hit good form from their front end and secured a 1-2-2 to take a decent 10-6 lead with only the last end to play.
The Ditchers could only manage one shot which put the Waisters into the final 10-7.

The other semi-final saw Falmouth’s Jets, skipped by John Jones, Ernie Eva and Paddy McMullan at lead played Stithians Ranchers skipped by Harry Barnes, Jack Garland 2 and John Knowles at lead.

The Ranchers soon took a 3-0 lead with a 2-1 after three ends, only to see the Jets respond with a 1-5 to take the lead 6-3 after four ends.

The Ranchers scored one shot on the fifth end but the Jets roared into the lead with a 2-4 to now take a 12-4 lead after seven ends.

The Ranchers now faced an uphill battle to save the game with only three ends to play - eight shots is a lot to recover from.

The best they could do was two singles on the 8th and 9th ends, going into the last end 6-12 down.
The Jets rounded the game off convincingly with four shots on the last end to record a 16-6 win to send them into the final.

The Jets had the better start against the Waisters to take a 4-0 lead  after two ends. The waisters changed their team for the final, with Ron Medlyn dropping out to give youngster Jordan Sanders his chance in the final.

The Waisters’ form deteriorated as the game progressed, and the Jets took full advantage to take a 7-3 lead after eight ends.

With two ends left the waisters managed one shot on the penultimate end to trail 4-7 but any hopes of recovery were soon dispelled as the Jets picked up four shots on the last end to win comfortably.

After the game, Bruce Littlewood - Falmouth’s president, presented the trophies. the Jets team, John Jones, Ernie Eva, Paddy McMullan, Jim Chatterton, David Winnan, Bob King and Roger Leach, were presented with the shield as winners.

Falmouth’s Waisters Richard Rame, Mike Pheby, Jordan Sanders, John Maunder and Ron Medlyn were presented with the shield and a £100 cheque which was in turn presented to Edwin Watson, whose granddaughter has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver and lungs and recently received intensive surgery.

The cheque was made out to CLIC (Cancer and Leukemia in Children), at the behest of the granddaughter and mother to help raise money for what is a worthy cause, with best wishes from the Waisters team.

After the presentationsa buffet lunch was served, and many votes of thanks offered, not least of all to Jenny Hardy and her band of kitchen workers from the club.
