In football Falmouth Town's last home game of the season in the Peninsula League premier division ended in a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Elburton Villa.

Glenn Squires scored Town's only goal a minute from time after Levi Landricombe (2), Callum Martindale and Sam Stevens had put the game beyond Town.

Meanwhile in division one west Helston Athletic are still in the hunt for second place in division one west after drawing 2-2 at home against Wadebridge.

Helston looked to be heading for the win after goals from Hugh Howlett and Jordan Adlard had cancelled out Giles Reynold's opener.

But Liam Ames fired in from 25 yards out to salavage a point for the Bridgers, who remain second four points ahead of Helston who have a game in hand.

Elsewhere in division one west Porthleven were beaten away at St Dennis, with Tom Annear scoring their only goal thanks to another well-struck free kick.

In cricket Cornwall came through a nailbiter against Hertfordshire to register their first victory in the MCCA Trophy.

An unbroken ninth wicket stand from Shakil Ahmed (50) and captain Tom Sharp (41) saw the Cornishmen chase down Hertfordshire's total of 276 with two balls to spare in the final over.

Meanwhile Falmouth CC came through a stern test against highly fancied Camborne away from home in the Premier Cup West on Saturday.

A superb innings from Stefan Chrucher (89) helped Falmouth reach Camborne's total of 187 all out with relative ease.

George Popperwell was the pick of the bowlers for Falmouth, posting figures of 31-4 off 10 overs.

And finally Falmouth's all-conquering Gig rowers bagged both the mens and ladies' titles at the 24th World Gig Rowing Championships in the Isles of Scilly over the weekend.

The mens' team romped home in under ten minutes, finishing well ahead of second placed Looe, with Roseland coming home third.

Meanwhile the ladies' team beat Mounts Bay, who finished second, followed by Caradon's 'A' team in third. Both Falmouth teams rowed in their gig, Black Rock.

More than 130 teams from across the world took part in this year's series of races, which finish on Monday.
