CALLINGTON  164-8

FALMOUTH  165-5

Falmouth got off to the best of starts in their opening Premier League game of the season.
They took the scalp of Callington, on their own patch, to follow on the impressive form shown in the unbeaten 50/50 Cup campaign.

The match was reduced to 94 overs after the start was delayed by an hour.

Falmouth won a useful toss but the county duo of Matt Robins and Jake Libby put on 45 before being parted.

Harry Roberts got the breakthrough to have Robins caught by Angove for 27.

It quickly got better for the visitors however with George Popperwell picking up Dan Davis for a single.

Joe White became a second victim for Roberts as three wickets fell for four runs. The Falmouth bowlers kept chipping away with Popperwell removing Andrew Libby for nine.

Aidan Libby joined Jake Libby and the pair saw the hundred up before Jon Udy struck to bowl Aidan for 14.

Andrew Jones and Dan Callinan both got double figures but it was Jake Libby that provided the glue to the innings.

He went on to survive 117 balls for his 51 before he was eighth out at 142. Jon Udy took three for 33.

George Popperwell took two for 16 from eight overs and Harry Roberts took two for 24. Richard Kellow got Falmouth off to a great start.

His 38 came at a run a ball and included two sixes and four fours. He was held by Dan Davis off the bowling of Andrew Libby with the score at 62.

Matt Goldsbury only made two before being run out seven runs later.

There was to be no collapse however as Antony Angove joined Stefan Churcher to take the total to 119 before both fell at the same score.

Angove’s 36 came off 42 balls while Churcher, for the first time this season, failed to reach fifty.
He made 38, however, that included a couple of sixes.

Adrian Noott became a second victim for Jim Shorten but with Justin Stephens unbeaten on 20 and Ed Farley 15 not out victory came with over four overs to spare. Jim Shorten took two for 45.

Falmouth have just the one game this weekend with St Austell the visitors to Trescobeas on Saturday at 1pm. There are no Premier League games on Monday as Cornwall are in action in Bedfordshire in the MCCA Trophy.

St Austell almost surprised the champions Werrington last weekend losing by just one wicket at Wheal Eliza despite only making 111.

Elsewhere there was a magnificent innings from St Just’s Neil Curnow who hit a record top division individual score of 229 in their 322-3 dec off 54 overs against Redruth.

They went on to win by the huge margin of 196 runs. Paul beat Camborne by one wicket in a low scoring game at Roskear after the home side were dismissed for 84.
