Falmouth's superb start to the season continued with victory over Paul at Trescobeas on Saturday, but the home side made hard work of it.

Falmouth, who were without captain Adrian Noott, won the toss, and in damp conditions elected to bowl.

And all the early indications were that it was the right decision, Antony Angove and Justin Stephens claimning the early wickets of openers Rhys Brownfield (2) and Matthew O'Leary (2).

Angove continued to work his way through the top order, dismissing Martin Oats (6) and Ben Brooks (7) in quick succession.

Kelvin Snell became the first Paul batsman to reach double figures, but only just. George Popperwell had Snell clean bowled for 10, leaving Paul reeling on 45 for 5.

But Falmouth hit something of a roadbump in the middle order, with Kieran Butler (20) and Charlie Goldsworthy (24) managing to compose themselves enough to put a combined 44 runs on the board, until Stephens and Angove struck again.

Callum Donelly (6), Oliver Paull (3) and Jack Lugg (0) offered little resistance, and Paul were all out for 130 - a modest total given Falmouth's recent form with the bat.

But not for the first time this season, the home side made life difficult for themsleves.

Richard Kellow knocked a confidence-boosting 28, but Stefan Churcher (3) was unable to replicate last week's heroics, and Matt Goldsbury (8) followed soon after.

Angove (21), Stephens (15), and Harry Roberts (20) steadied the ship before all three fell to the bowling of Tony Riggall, ensuring a nervy finish fo Falmouth, who also lost Kieran Rodda (7) and Geroge Popperwell (0) cheaply.

But despite a tense finale Falmouth were able to wrap up victory thanks to tail-ender Guy  Leathley, whose solitary run saw Falmouth over the line.
