Perranarworthal’s disappointing season hit a low on Saturday when they were shot out for 30 at the Towans.

It was all over in eighteen overs, the top score was extras with seven as the last eight wickets fell for just eleven runs. Nigel Smitheram caused the damage taking seven for 15, including a hat trick claiming thwe wickets of Andrew Brotherton, Ben Toulson and Simon Blackburn.

Things had looked promising early on as Blackburn took three early wickets as the home side stumbled to  35 for four. Kevin Jenkin made 31 before Jason Weeks (23) and Wayne Jenkin (29) also made good contributions. Blackburn ended with five for 22 from 7.4 overs. Perran have a tough game on Saturday with second placed Ludgvan visiting Tredrea.

Stithians 156-5  Roche 157-4
Stithians went down to a six wicket defeat at Roche. Glyn Furnival top scored with 50 for Stithians in an innings reduced to 38 overs. Martin Strick made 43 and Callum Martin was undefeated on 25. Shaun Trudgeon took two for 15. A fifth wicket stand between Lee Tarbuck (37no) and Jamie Trudgeon (31no) saw Roche home. Adam Brenton made 33 and Adam Trudgeon 28. Furnival took two for 28. Stithians host Beacon on Saturday.

Roche – Stithians 156-5 (G Furnival 50, M Strick 43, C Martin 25no; S Trudgeon 2-15), Roche 157-4 (L Tarbuck 37no, A Brenton 33, J Trudgeon 31no, A Trudgeon 28; G Furnival 2-28). Roche (17 points) beat Stithians (five) by six wickets in a match reduced to 38 overs.

Stithians gained some revenge twenty-four hours later when they beat Roche, at home, in the Devon & Cornwall Group Final of the National Village Cup.

For the second successive year they are through to the national stages of the competition. Stithians made 200 and Roche were 153 all out.

Stithians travel to the Hampshire side Hambledon on Sunday for a place in the last sixteen. The club was formed in 1750 and soon became the most powerful club in the country. In taking on the responsibility for developing the laws of modern-day cricket –the club earned its reputation as ‘the cradle of cricket’, a title by which it is still known. Hambledon had a narrow three run win over Hursley Park in the Hampshire County Final. Hambledon were national finalists at Lord’s in 1989.

Falmouth II v Rosudgeon.
Falmouth seconds have lost the leadership following the cancellation of their top of the table clash with Rosudgeon at Trescobeas.
Both sides took six points. Helston took advantage with a five wicket win over Truro seconds to move seven points clear.

St Ives 149-6 St Gluvias 58-0 RSP
The weather had the last say in at St Ives with St Gluvias having to settle for an abandonment when well placed. In an innings eventually reduced to 43 overs St Ives lost Jamie Swannell without a run on the board when he was bowled by Scot Kellow.
Andrew Peters made 14 but Andrew Bowden struck as four wickets fell for fifteen runs at 59 for four.
Dave Marsh rescued the home side making 73 not out sharing a sixth wicket stand of 88 with Dillon Hart who made 49. Bowden took three for 10 from seven overs. Kellow and Jake Preston took one each. In reply St Gluvias were 58 without loss after fifteen overs when the game was called off. St Gluvias host leaders Helston on Saturday.

A superb spell from Kevin Hawke of six for 17 from twelve overs set up victory for St Gluvias seconds in the derby at Kernick Road. Paul Stephens top scored with 33. St Gluvias skipper Matt Ambrose took three wickets before seeing his side home with 34 not out.
