More than one hundred teams from all over the South West entered this year’s Wendron Sharon Wood mini-soccer tournament, and for the first time in six years, the event was blessed with sunshine.

Tournament organiser Alan Watson said: “It was a fantastic day with once again another huge entry of teams. It was definitely another success and most importantly of all lots of money was raised for Cancer Research UK.

In his memory the family awarded the “Graham Wood Sporting Award Trophy’s” to the team in each group who, in the eyes of the referees showed the highest level of sportsmanship. There were several talent scouts from local clubs Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United and from further afield Manchester United. Trophies this year were presented by Mark Wood (Sharon’s son), Elizabeth Champion (Sharon’s close friend), Treve Matthews (Wendron Youth chairman), Jonathan Stedman (Wendron Youth secretary) and John Reid (CCFA Referee mentor) Winners in the under-9 to 13 age groups were as follows: under-9, Bodmin; under-10, Illogan All Blacks; under-11: Penzance Raiders; under-12, Trevenson Vipers; under-13: Charlestown Pumas.
