Penryn Rugby Club celebrate RFU accreditation
7:00am Friday 9th August 2013 in Sport
Penryn RFC’s busy year has culminated in the club being awarded RFU accrediation.
The sceheme replaces the RFU’s ‘Seal of Approval’, which had very strict conditions that meant few clubs in Cornwall had qualified to hold it - Penryn being one of them.
The scheme looks at the way sports clubs are run, and is only awarded to those clubs that demonstrate good practice in a number of key areas.
The objective, according to the RFU, is "to help all club sentions become more effective, more efficient, and more enjoyable places in which to play rugby."
Unlike other accreditation schemes, this one provides a framework for a club to show what it is doing, how it does it, and where it can improve.
This recognition of the club’s achievement follows a successful season on and off the field, with strong performances from the senior men’s and ladies’ teams, and the youth section attracting record numbers and fileding sides at every age group.
The award of three major grants from Sport england and the Rugby Football Foundation, have enabled the club to start work on the construction of a new training centre and to purchase state-of-the-art pitch maintenance equipment, including a new Iseki tractor.
Chairman Robert Stephens said: “This is an exciting time for our club. A great deal of effort has been put into trying to improve the facilities here at Penryn, and it’s now all coming to fruition.
"We are a real community club that is well supported by volunteers and this accreditation is a tribute to the hard work that many of them have put in. We still have a lot of work to do, but this award is a sign we’re headed in the right direction."
Cornwall’s rugby development officer, Mike Bratt, added: “I’m delighted for Penryn. The award of 'club accreditation' is a reflection of the hard work that members of the club have put in to improve their facilities and attract new players. It is well deserved.”
