Last season's all-conquering league and cup champions Bodmin Town suffered a shock defeat against Witheridge at Priory Park in their opening game of the season.

Lee Doel scored for Darren Gilbert's side, but two late goals from Witheridge nicked all three points for the visitors.

Elsewhere former Falmouth Town captain Jason Chapman saved a penalty, but was powerless to prevent another of the pre-season favourites for the premiere division title, St Austell, fall to a 2-0 defeat against newly promoted Godolphin.

Phil Lowry and Aaron Dilley were on the scoresheet for Derek Martin's side, who enjoyed a dream start to their first season in the top tier.

Crisis club Liskeard fell to a home defeat against Alan Carey's Newquay at Lux Park, but Saltash dished out an 8-1 hammering to Bobby Oaten's St Blazey at the Kimberley Stadium.

Reg Hambly's Camelford got their season off to a winning start at home to Witheridge, but Cullompton were unable to make home advantage count as Elburton Villa put five unanswered goals past them at Speed's Meadow.

League newcomers Exmouth and Elmore enjoyed mixed fortunes.

Exmouth thumped Tavistock 4-1 away from home, but Elmore were on the wrong end of a 2-0 result at home to Launceston.
