Falmouth Town are still searching for their first points of the new season after losing 3-1 at home to Saltash in the Peninsula League premier division.

Disappointed Town manager Robbie Stephens said he felt his side's performance represented a backwards step after promising displays against St Austell and Newquay .

"We were lucky to go in 1-1 at half time to be honest," said Stephens. "We told them what we wanted them to do before they game and they just didn't do it. I have no idea why.

"It's frustrating because on paper this was a stronger side than the one we put out against St Austell during the week, but we didn't perform anywhere near as well."

Town went behind to an early Saltash goal, but equalised thanks to a strike from summer signing Paul Cox.

But after half time Saltash pulled ahead and a late goal for the Ashes sealed the win.

"We're looking at trying to get some new faces in." admitted Stephens, "We've got some irons in the fire. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, but I feel like today was definitely a backwards step."

Meanwhile premier division title favourites Plymouth Parkway maintained their 100 per cent start to the season after a comfortable home win against league newcomers Exmouth Town.

The only other team in the division with a spotless record, Witheridge, thrashed Liskeard Athletic at Lux Park, but there was disappointment for Darren Gilbert's Bodmin Town who could only manage a 1-1 draw at Priory Park against Bovey Tracey.

Last year's division one west champions Godolphin Atlantic's fine start to the season continued at Godolphin Way as the Gs beat Bobby Oaten's St Blazey in a thrilling encounter that ended 3-2 to Godolphin.

And St Austell had summer signing Jason Chapman to thank for all three points away at Ivybridge, with the ex-Falmouth Town captain producing an early candidate for save of the season, before making a stunning penalty save late on to help secure all three points for the Lilywhites.

Full premier division scores were as follows:
