Third time lucky for Truro City as Kendall heads winner
10:04am Sunday 25th August 2013 in Sport
Truro City secured their first three point haul of the Calor League premier division season away at Hinckley on Saturday, thanks to a headed goal from vice-captain Paul Kendall.
The win maintains Truro's unbeaten start to the season and breaks a run of two successive draws.
Kendall, who returned to the side following a three game suspension, nodded in Ollie Brokenshire's corner in the 68th minute to send Truro's 285 travelling supporters home from Leicestershire happy.
City had earlier opportunities to open their account, but in his first start for the club Lewis Coombes headed wide as both sides struggled in the windy conditions.
Truro kept up the pressure on Hinckley, who themselves have made a poor start to the season, and were rewarded when Kendall headed in.
Substitute Liam Eddy went close to extending Truro's lead only to see his shot come back off the upright.
And City were almost made to pay for the miss when Raif Gwinnett needed to be alert to make a goal line clearance.
But in the end City held on relatively comfortably for the win, which sends them up to tenth in the table.
