FALMOUTH TOWN v LAUNCESTON

Falmouth Town will go into Saturday's game against Launceston looking for their first win of the season after a string of five defeats in their opening five games.

Manager Robbie Stephens said last weekend's 3-1 home loss against Saltash represented a 'backwards step' for Town, who up until then had put in some promising performances - particularly against Newquay and St Austell.

Stephens and assistant manager Gary Pascoe are still looking to recruit new players, with a striker and a full back high on their list of priorities.

But bringing new faces in at this early stage of the season is notoriously difficult, and it's likely that the Falmouth side lining up against Launceston tomorrow will be largely unchanged.

Stephens was incensed by what he saw as sloppy positional play against the Ashes at Bickland Park, so expect Pascoe to have worked on that during the week.

At some point the tide will turn for Falmouth, and as Stephens noted on Saturday, one result may be all it takes. Whether that result comes against a strong Launceston is less clear, but expect a much improved performance from Town.

Falmouth Town v Launceston - Bickland Park, kick off 3pm.

Prediction: Falmouth Town 1 Launceston 1

HOLSWORTHY v PENRYN ATHLETIC

Meanwhile in division one west Helston Athletic's Bank Holiday conquerors Penryn face a trip to struggling Holsworthy, who as many predicted already look set for a season-long relegation battle at the foot of division one west.

Penryn made a stuttering start to the season which saw them lose their opening two games, but after a Kayne Trevaskis hat-trick saw them sweep past Wadebridge 4-2, and Ollie Moody's injury time wonder goal put paid to Helston earlier this week, managers Steve Jewel and Stuart Massey will expect nothing but three points from their trip to Upcott Field.

Holsworthy v Penryn Athletic - Upcott Field, kick off 3pm.

Prediction: Penryn Athletic 4 Holsworthy 0

CALLINGTON v PORTHLEVEN

Dennis Annear's young Porthleven side will be looking to put the disappointment of defeat on Wednesday against Mousehole firmly behind them this weekend, but Port are faced with a tricky game away at Callington.

The Fishermen have thus far defied critics who expected them to struggle this season by winning their opening two games, including a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Gala Parc against Perranporth.

Their narrow 3-2 defeat against Mousehole on Wednesday will no doubt have come as a disappointment after Port found themselves in the lead up until the later stages of the game.

But Annear's side are nothing if not resilient, and though Callington will go into the game as favourites, they're sure to have a tough afternoon ahead of them.

Callington Town v Portleven - Ginsters Marshfield Park, kick off 3.pm.

Prediction: Callington 1 Porthleven 1

JOLLY'S CORNWALL COMBINATION LEAGUE

FALMOUTH ATHLETIC v FALMOUTH TOWN

The weekend's big game sees Falmouth Town line up against Falmouth Athletic in the local derby.

Bryn Wheeler's Town side have struggled of late, with second string players called up to plug holes in Falmouht's first team. Town also come into the game off the back of two demoralising defeats at the hands of St Ives, and a recent loss against St Day.

But Athletic have found it tough going too, and themselves come into Saturday's game off the back of two narrow defeats against Newquay and St Day.

Both sides will be desperate to kick start their season at the Dracaena Playing fields on Saturday, and of course there's the small matter of local bragging rights to worry about. Expect fireworks.

Falmouth Athletic v Falmouth Town - Dracaena Paying Fields, kick off 3pm.

Prediction: Falmouth Athletic 2 Falmouth Town 1

WENDRON UNITED v NEWQUAY

Wendron will hope to continue their solid start to the season at home against Newquay on Saturday.

Paul Murray's side have won all three games so far, but Newquay will no doubt pose a stern test. Expect it to be a tight, cagey affair at Underlane, but Wedron could just edge it.

Wendron United v Newquay - Underlane, kick off 3pm.

Prediction: Wendron 2 Newquay 1
