TRURO CITY 1

Ash (90+4)

HITCHIN TOWN 1

McGeorge (27)

A dramatic goal in injury time from Truro City captain Jake Ash secured a deserved point for Truro City at home against Hitchin Town on Saturday.

After defeat against Bideford on Bank Holiday Monday this was Truro City's chance to make amends in front of an expectant crowd, but for 93 minutes it looked for all the world like Steve Massey's side would suffer their second defeat on the bounce.

Hitchin went ahead in the 27th minute after some sloppy defending gifted Rogan McGeorge a goal scoring opportunity ten yards out. The midfield made no mistake, curling his shot into the top corner.

City almost equalised straight away after Jordan Copp burst down the left and squared a ball for Matt Andrew, but his scuffed effort hit excellent Hitchin keeper Tahj Bell in the shoulder and bounced clear.

Bell might not have known much about Andrews' shot, but it was a different story when on the stroke of half time Les Afful was fouled in the box and referee Mark Lawrence pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Copp to take it, but the spot kick was tame. The Hitchin keeper dived to his left and palmed it over the bar.

After the break Hitchin missed further opportunities to extend their lead. Robbie Burns fired straight at Chenoweth from six yards out, Lowe saw his long range effort saved by the City keeper before crashing another long range shot against the bar.

But City had chances of their own, and the best of them fell to second half substitute Liam Eddy, who raced on to a ball over the top, rounded Bell but hit the outside of the post with the goal at his mercy.

As the clock ticked down it looked for all the world like that would be that.

It was left to captain Jake Ash, playing out of position up front, to save the day. With the last kick of the game he volleyed in from just inside the box to secure a deserved share of the points for Steve Massey's side.
