Penryn RFC played host to the Cornish Pirates squad, coaches and backroom staff, at a special traning session held on Tuesday.
As part of their pre-season roadshow the Pirates are visiting a number of clubs across the county to offer skills and games sessions to the youngsters of the area, as well as to give help and advice to the coaches at the club.
Despite the overcast conditions there was a great turn out, with over 100 players registering for the afternoon sessions - the best the Pirates had experienced to date.
As the clouds lifted and the sun came out the children were divided into groups based on their ages, and the sessions commenced, with the Pirates providing a wide range of rugby activities.
Afterwards there was a chance to snatch autographs and a photo with the players and ask searching questions about the life of a professional rugby player.
The Pirates also offered the chance for club coaches to sit in on the team video analysis of a recent match, which took place in the clubhouse, and offered a fascinating insight into the work that goes on off the pitch.
David Fields, Chairman of Penryn RFC youth section, said: “A great time was had by all those who took part. This was an excellent event run by the Pirates and testimony to their wish to help and support Cornish Rugby.
“The young players and their coaches at our club are very grateful to the Pirates for this initiative, look forward to further co-operation with them and wish them all the best for the coming season.”
Registration for all players from the age of 5 to 16 takes place every Sunday in September at the Memorial Ground from 10.30am till noon.
New players are particularly welcome - all they need is boots, shorts and a T-shirt to take part. Anyone can try rugby at the club for free for a month before making a commitment.
